Job Description

NJ Advance Media is looking for a dynamic, digitally-minded reporter to cover New Jersey style and culture as part of our expanding features team. The reporter, who will be based in our Woodbridge office, will be an integral part of our digital-first newsroom. The reporter will be writing for NJ.com and will also see his or her work published in the print editions of our various print properties, including the Newark Star-Ledger, the Trenton Times and the South Jersey Times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate will have an interest in cultural, trends, fashion, style, VIP experiences and emerging trends. We’re looking for someone with the broad ability to profile the hottest new restaurants or chefs in the state; direct readers to the 10 best spas in New Jersey; define the best places around for a first date or the most romantic places to get married.

We want a reporter comfortable telling stories in many different mediums, whether through words, photos or video; someone with a strong point of view and a healthy sense of humor; someone whose passion for great journalism is matched only by a passion for innovation.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
● a degree in journalism, English or communications, or a related field;
● a minimum of 2 years of journalism experience with a proven ability in reporting and writing;
● a love of social media and an ability to use it to expand the reach of stories and grow online audience;
● an ability to work independently under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks
appropriately;
● a solid understanding of news writing, journalism ethics and story structure;
● a deep knowledge of and passion for New Jersey — or the ability to learn fast;
● Other duties as assigned.
