Job Description

Author Philip Pullman once wrote, “After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.” At Artsy, we wholeheartedly agree.

Within our mission to make art accessible to anyone with an internet connection, we tell the stories around art and artmaking, with the end goal of creating exciting, engaging, and educational content and dialogue around the art world. With that in mind, we are looking for self-motivated individuals to help us achieve this goal. The successful intern will play an integral part in Artsy Editorial’s growth and our goal to produce content that pushes the conversation around art forward.

As Editorial Intern, the majority of your time will be spent fact-checking and conducting research (both image and otherwise) around a variety of article types from longform artist profiles to stories covering the crossover of art and economics, to art historical pieces and news explainers.

Additionally, you will spend a large percentage of time working with our editors to provide all means of support surrounding coverage of upcoming gallery shows, art fairs, institutional exhibitions, and breaking art-world news. You will also play a substantial role in research and outreach around large-scale artist features and other packages, assist the team in formatting and publishing articles, and will attend and contribute at regular editorial meetings and brainstorm sessions. Depending on your experience and writing skill, you may be given the opportunity to contribute, pitch, and write content around fairs, galleries, and evergreen content.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong time management skills, is meticulously organized, and obsessed with meeting deadlines. Our desired candidate will have a background in journalism, experience working at an arts or culture publication, and/or a background in art history. You are enthusiastic about online publishing, spend most of your time thinking about the possibilities of the written word online, and feel very comfortable undertaking extensive independent research and fact-checking tasks. Additionally, you should have an expressed interest in contemporary art and art history with a strong desire to learn more.

Lastly, you are a strategic thinker, a proactive problem-solver, a confident and thoughtful writer, and a strong collaborator who is excited be part of a dynamic, close-knit editorial team, and you get a thrill out of working in a fast-paced environment.
