Job Description

The Real News Network is currently seeking an experienced Producer to lead our Global Climate Crisis Bureau (GCCB). The goal of the GCCB is to become a major daily video climate news service that serves as a critical link in the effort to investigate the climate crisis, fight for effective solutions and transition to an equitable, sustainable and green economy. To engage large numbers of ordinary people in fighting—and voting—for effective climate change policy, the GCCB will work to break the corporate monopoly on daily video news and serve as independent source of climate news that’s not beholden to the corporate interests or the fossil fuel industry.

Job Summary:
The GCCB Producer will oversee the daily production and distribution of content into a range of broadcast channels and media outlets, manage editorial calendars, identify content needs, meet high-volume content goals, and liaise with editorial and production staff to define, develop compelling content offerings for various partners and lead TRNN in fulfilling the goals of the Global Climate Crisis Bureau Proposal.

Job Responsibilities:
-Build and oversee experienced and talented staff of climate journalists to report on climate science and urgency of the climate crisis, and produce groundbreaking investigative journalism and in-depth interviews on proposed solutions and models of change
-Pitch daily on national and international news stories as they relate to climate change
-Knowledge of current environmental science, key players in environmental movement nationally and internationally, and link between environmental issues, public health and social justice
-Help establish local bureaus nationwide with coverage from Capitol Hill and the White House
-Help establish bureaus internationally with a global network of journalists and activists, especially in the global south, the place most affected by the consequences of climate change
-Produce short documentary films like our “Trump and The Koch Brothers’ War on Climate Science” and “The Bizarre Billionaire that Backed Bannon and Trump”
-Content research and story development for GCCB
-Detailed fact-checking of all stories
-Research databases and file FOIAs
-Write video news scripts
-Work with producers and editing staff to enhance news pieces by locating relevant videos, graphics, charts and other visual elements
-Work with studio technicians to produce interviews as they take place, indicating where visual elements should be added, including during live shoots
-Meet daily deadlines in a high-energy work environment
-Post-produce and edit news pieces with Adobe Premiere
-Oversee live streamed events featuring scientists and thought leaders
-Oversee distribution of content and establish an online platform to aggregate the best climate reporting from scientific and news organizations
-Establish creative opportunities for public engagement on local and state initiatives through activities including but not limited to town halls and petitions

Education and Experience:
-Bachelor's Degree or higher in Broadcasting or related field; or equivalent work experience
-Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, either at a research institute or in journalism and a strong handle on the politics and science of climate change
-Proven track record of work in the environmental movement or environmental journalism
-Expert project management skills with proven capacity to meet and exceed editorial objectives and deadlines

-Knowledge of national and international political and social affairs, and interest in upkeep with the news cycle
-Ability to complete tasks and calmly maintain order in high-stress situations

-Knowledge and understanding of various media platforms, including broadcast, web and mobile
-Strong computer skills, with basic understanding of multimedia file formats
-News research skills
