Job Description

The Staten Island Advance is seeking a multimedia specialist to create engaging and dynamic digital content, with a particular emphasis on video. The right candidate will be highly skilled, able to tell compelling stories through top-quality videos and photos. You should live and breathe in the world of digital multimedia—we want a technology geek who is comfortable on the cutting edge and loves to experiment. You will be joining a forward-thinking news organization that is committed to growing a robust digital news report for the Staten Island community.

For this job you must:

--Have excellent videography skills—shooting and editing
--Be comfortable on either side of the camera
--Have ability to identify the best multimedia approach to a story, and to execute it
--Be an early adopter of new digital tools, with a knowledge of, and passion for, emerging multimedia technologies
--Have experience with audio, interactive media and other storytelling tools
--Have writing ability
--Have an outgoing personality and an ability to connect with subjects
--Be comfortable working quickly, and sometimes under pressure, in a deadline-driven competitive news environment
--Be a self-starter who can come up with fresh story ideas
--Be a good still shooter who can handle long lenses and is adept in shooting action
--Care deeply about local news and online journalism
--Be results-oriented, and understand how to use statistical data to inform editorial decisions
--Be a strong team player who thrives on collaboration with reporters, managers and other multimedia specialists
--Knowledge of Staten Island’s structure and systems preferred

Minimum job requirements:

--Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, with educational background in journalism, communications, broadcast or a related field preferred
--1-3 years of experience shooting, editing, reporting and packaging digital multimedia content in a fast-paced, competitive environment
--Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
--Have use of a reliable car
