Backchannel is the longform arm of Wired Media Group. We publish one magazine feature-length story per day on the business of technology.

Job Description

Backchannel is looking for an editorial fellow to join us in our New York office for six months, beginning this summer. This is a full-time, temporary position best suited to a college graduate with some background in journalism and an interest in technology. You would be joining our small but powerful team working to scale up our community-oriented home for deeply reported technology stories.

The fellow’s primary responsibilities include:
• Pitching and writing stories on the business of technology
• Helping to build out Backchannel’s social media presence across platforms
• Assisting editors with research and fact checking
• Assisting with art and photo research as needed
• Assisting with web production

Desired skills and qualifications:
• 1 year of experience in journalism (either through previous internships or student publications)
• Familiarity with and/or interest in learning more about technology and business
• Fluency in social media (Facebook and Twitter, first and foremost)
• An eye for striking, clickable images
• Research and fact-checking abilities beyond a basic Google/Wikipedia search
• Experiencing learning a new CMS is a plus!
