Job Description

The Associate Editor serves as the principal author of The Clearing House’s electronic publication, Weekly Brief & Insights, a weekly compendium of activities relating to the work of TCH and banking industry news. As the principal author of the Weekly Brief & Insights, s/he will engage in a substantive way across all areas of TCH’s work, leveraging and summarizing third-party content, as well as working with internal staff to collect, aggregate, and synthesize relevant information relating to the Clearing House’s work. The publication is designed to further the Clearing House’s advocacy and work, both with regard to reaching member audiences and policymakers. The position will further be responsible for launching a new payments-specific weekly publication comparable to the Weekly Brief & Insights. The position further provides support for the Clearing House’s quarterly journal Banking Perspectives, assisting the publisher with proofreading, editing, and organizational responsibilities. Finally, the Associate Editor provides support to the Director of Strategy & Operations around various operational and strategic functions, particularly in the area of preparing presentation decks, board briefing materials, etc. The position entails a particular focus on enhancing the effectiveness of the organization’s publications and member communications. The position requires very strong writing and editing skills. While no formal training in bank regulation, payments, or the banking industry is required, the position requires a quick learner who will develop a comprehensive understanding of the field, including the current regulatory and policy landscapes.

Candidates should be self-motivated, well-organized and detail-oriented, collegial and able to function under pressure while handling numerous tasks simultaneously. The position is well-suited to a candidate who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is both quick in execution while also being meticulous. S/he must be able to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as part of a team. Works with senior executives internally and externally and is required to produce a zero-defect publication on a weekly basis.
