Job Description
Charlottesville Tomorrow seeks an Education Reporter to lead its coverage of public education in Charlottesville and Albemarle County and to work as part of an ambitious, hyperlocal nonprofit newsroom.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Education Reporter will lead Charlottesville Tomorrow’s education journalism initiatives, with a particular focus on expanding the impact of its news coverage, diversifying its perspectives, developing its source and information network, covering important stories, and working on engagement and solutions journalism initiatives.
The Education Reporter will work closely with the News Editor and the Land Use Reporter to help the organization solidify its role as a national leader in nonprofit, hyperlocal, mission-driven journalism.
- Cover public education issues in Charlottesville and related issues that directly affect school communities, with special attention to understanding school equity and achievement gap issues.
- Collaborate with the editorial team and freelance journalists to create cutting-edge digital and multimedia journalism projects that offer solutions to long-standing problems.
- Develop trusted source networks among parents, teachers, students, and school division staff, in addition to community and nonprofit leaders.
- Specific goals and objectives in each area shall be set by the Executive Director and News Editor in conversation with the Board of Directors.
SALARY RANGE: $35-50K, based on skills and experience.
