Job Description
The Role
We’re looking for a sharp, well-connected reporter to join the Tectonic team. You will write multiple weekly stories, help curate our newsletter and site, and attend key industry events. An important part of this role will be sourcing. We expect you to be plugged into the DC defense scene and to dive even deeper once you start.
This is a full-time remote position, but we will highly prioritize candidates applying from the greater Washington, DC, area.
In this role, you will:
– Pitch, report, and write original stories independently
– Assist with editing, curating, and sending the Tectonic newsletter
– Attend demos, conferences, and events to meet sources and report stories
– Assist with content for Tectonic events
– Conduct research to support reporting and longer-term projects
– Promote stories via social media and other platforms
We’re looking for someone who has:
– 2+ years of journalism experience (reporting + writing)
– Strong portfolio of published work
– Clear, concise, and punchy writing style (check our site for tone)
– Existing network in defense and/or DC policy circles
– Interest in business, science, or tech journalism
– Attention to detail and solid fact-checking skills
– Familiarity with defense, politics, markets, and emerging tech
We’re a small team (for now!) so we’re looking for someone who is a self-starter, driven to grow the brand, and works well within a tight-knit newsroom.
To Apply
Interested? Great! We can’t wait to hear from you. Reach out to Erin (erin@tectonicdefense.com) with a short (<150 word) explanation of why you’d be a great fit for this position (we said short—no formal cover letters, please). Please include two published writing samples, a resume, and a link to your LinkedIn/Twitter profiles. Send the materials with the subject line “Applying to Tectonic.”
