Job Description - Social Media News Producer for Ronan Production Group
Ronan Farrow is a contributing writer to The New Yorker and is currently producing documentaries for HBO. We are seeking candidates for a social media news producer to create and produce short-form and long-form social media content. This is an opportunity to support investigative reporting and documentary filmmaking at the highest level.
This role is an opportunity for enterprising researchers, journalists, and documentarians to deepen their investigative skills, contribute to consequential and culture-impacting journalism at the highest levels, and help build solutions to the challenge of getting high-quality information to new and especially digital audiences.
Ideal candidates should have skill and experience in video storytelling, including scripting and editing, and be adept at social media strategy, with a sincere understanding of various platforms and their audiences. The candidate will work with Farrow to create and produce short-form and long-form content, including explainers and investigative mini-docs, across these platforms.
Primary responsibilities:
● Research, write, and produce (filming and editing) social media content across platforms, most specifically TikTok and Instagram Reels.
● Translate Farrow’s singular reporting, style, and voice to social platforms, creating shareable content that remains true to his voice.
● Lead production of social-first material, including content that will elevate our reporting on social media.
● Manage and grow social media audiences, including building a strategy for Substack.
● Measure and analyze performance.
● Establish evolving best practices.
● Work closely with RPG leadership on overall digital strategy.
Skills & Qualifications:
Proven track record in pitching, writing, and fact-checking investigative and news video scripts, posts, or segments.
Superior knowledge and experience with video-production tools and processes.
Deep knowledge of social media platforms and an understanding of how to optimize content for each.
History of creating content that performed well and drove attention whether for yourself or a brand.
Deep understanding of social media ecosystems, including TikTok, Reels, and Substack: trends, hashtags, music usage, functionalities, guidelines, and platform updates.
Superior verbal, written, copy editing and proofreading skills.
Excellent editorial judgment, particularly during breaking-news and other politically or culturally sensitive events.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Strong familiarity with analytics and posting tools.
The candidate will support Farrow’s investigative work directly.
Salary and benefits:
The base salary for this role is $65 to 75K. This is a full-time position based in New York City with a competitive benefits package/health insurance.
