For 50 years Back Stage has been the top trade publication for actors and the performing arts industry. In addition to BackStage.com, we publish newspapers in New York and Los Angeles, as well as the trade listings publication Call Sheet. For more info, visit www.backstage.com.

Job Description

BackStage.com is seeking journalism interns for the Spring 2011 semester, as well as Summer 2011. We're interested in responsible, self-motivated, tech-savvy college students with sharp writing skills. Interns MUST work in exchange for school credit, and be available for at least 16-20 hours per week.

Interns will get the opportunity to do research, write news and feature stories, post on our weblog, update our events calendar, and learn about publishing on the Web in a professional environment. Work on online videos and other interactive projects may also be included.

In addition, we're looking for interns to work exclusively as bloggers, getting experience creating regular content either for a pop-culture blog (www.backstage.com/blogstage) or for a news aggregator blog (www.backstage.com/espresso).

Knowledge of MS Word and Excel, and experience using the Internet for research is required. Knowledge of photo editing software like Photoshop, weblog and video editing software, and social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace are preferred. Familiarity with the performing arts industry -- film, TV, and stage -- is helpful.

To Apply

Please email a resume, cover letter, and at least two (2) writing samples to Tom Penketh, Managing Online Editor, Back Stage, at blogs@backstage.com. Acceptable formats for writing samples include PDFs, JPEGs, website links, and Microsoft Word documents.
