Journalism Internship
Media Organization: AOL
Company Description
Yes, AOL has been around for more than 25 years, and yes, we are a leading global web services company operating one of the largest Internet subscription access services in the United States... but big-time things are in the works here. Our already extensive suite of brands now includes industry game-changers such as Huffington Post, Patch, TechCrunch and About.Me. We're working with up-and-coming artists from around the globe to re-invent our brand and help shape the art and design of tomorrow. We're not just embracing the newest online technologies, we are creating them. And at this very moment, we are re-energizing the Web as you know it with the highest quality content possible. Bottom line: We're not your grandma's AOL.
Job Description
The Huffington Post has an immediate opening for a reporting/editorial intern in New York for the Impact vertical, which focuses on reporting and taking action on issues that affect people struggling in America and worldwide. The vertical focuses on social change and crucial domestic issues including homelessness, poverty and other disadvantaged groups.
Interns will be asked to do extensive researching, writing, editing, fact-checking, monitoring of news stories, and other tasks as assigned. For those with a strong interest in reporting and writing about these issues, this internship is a great opportunity to work with and be published on a major mainstream news site.
Ideally, interns should have previous journalism experience as well as an active interest in social change and humanitarian news. Applicants should be familiar with AP style and have strong writing, editing, interviewing and research skills. They should also be familiar with social media sites, including Twitter and Facebook. Some experience with Web production applications is preferred.
This is a paid internship at about 25 hours / week.
