Journalism Internship
Media Organization: AOL / Huffington Post
Company Description
Yes, AOL has been around for more than 25 years, and yes, we are a leading global web services company operating one of the largest Internet subscription access services in the United States... but big-time things are in the works here. Our already extensive suite of brands now includes industry game-changers such as Huffington Post, Patch, TechCrunch and About.Me. We're working with up-and-coming artists from around the globe to re-invent our brand and help shape the art and design of tomorrow. We're not just embracing the newest online technologies, we are creating them. And at this very moment, we are re-energizing the Web as you know it with the highest quality content possible. Bottom line: We're not your grandma's AOL.
Job Description
The Huffington Post has an immediate opening for an editorial intern in New York for the new HuffPost High School section, which focuses on teens and the issues that matter to them. We cover high school news, college prep, politics, youth activism, entertainment, fashion, technology and beyond -- all for a teenaged audience.
We're looking for an intern to help regulate our network of 200+ teen bloggers, setting up blogger accounts and doing light copy editing on blog posts. The intern will also be responsible for some writing, fact-checking, monitoring of news stories, and administrative tasks as assigned. For those with a strong interest in reporting on teen issues, this internship is a great opportunity to work with and be published on a major news site.
Interns should have previous editorial experience as well as an active interest in teen culture and online media. Applicants should have strong writing, editing, and research skills (photo-editing skills are a plus!) They should also be social-media saavy -- Twitter and Facebook are an important way for us to connect with our readers! We are looking for an intern to work a minimum of three full days per week, but applicants with full-time availability will be favored. This internship is paid.
