Paid Journalism Internship

Media Organization: Huffington Post

Company Description

Yes, AOL has been around for more than 25 years, and yes, we are a leading global web services company operating one of the largest Internet subscription access services in the United States... but big-time things are in the works here. Our already extensive suite of brands now includes industry game-changers such as Huffington Post, Patch, TechCrunch and About.Me. We're working with up-and-coming artists from around the globe to re-invent our brand and help shape the art and design of tomorrow. We're not just embracing the newest online technologies, we are creating them. And at this very moment, we are re-energizing the Web as you know it with the highest quality content possible. Bottom line: We're not your grandma's AOL.

Job Description

HuffPostTech, the Huffington Post's tech section has an opening for a paid spring and summer internship based in New York City.

Primary responsibilities include:

- Researching, writing and copy editing original content
- Pitching and writing original story ideas
- Suggesting stories for aggregation
- Other general assignments working closely with HuffPostTech editors and reporters

Candidates should be extremely web savvy, quick learners, detail-oriented, energetic, efficient, good at self-directed follow through, excellent writers/copy editors and be avid consumers of online media. We need a self-starter who is curious about the tech world and eager to learn but need not have mastery nor be a certifiable geek. What is absolutely required is serious dedication to detail, swift and accurate writing ability, and attention to deadlines -- all while juggling multiple tasks at once.

The ideal candidate will be able to start immediately and be deeply interested in all aspects of technology coverage, particularly consumer electronics and social media. Experience with Photoshop, Movable Type or similar blogging platform, basic HTML preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to work full time, or as close to 40 hours per week as possible at $10/hr.

This is great opportunity to learn all the ins and outs of new media and get first-hand exposure to how The Huffington Post works. The position would mostly revolve around content creation, and the intern would have an opportunity to pitch article ideas.
