newyork/newsday.com is a branded newsday website covering Westchester and the Lower Hudson Valley.

Job Description

Interns will work for a Newsday-branded website that covers Westchester, Rockland and other Hudson Valley counties. They will work in our Manhattan office as web producers, entertainment web producers, digital reporters, photographers or social media interns. These are hands-on positions that will provide solid digital journalism experience for selected candidates. Students must receive academic credit for the internships and generally work two days a week.

Web Producer Intern
Web producer interns will be responsible for publishing stories, photos, polls and other multimedia extras. They may be asked to coordinate with reporters and editors to keep the site fresh with flowing content and may also work on social media outreach. Interns may also be assigned to write stories and assist with breaking news as well as production of longer-term multimedia projects.

Entertainment Web Producer Intern
Entertainment web producer interns will be responsible for covering both things to do in the region and national entertainment and pop culture news. They will write up area venues and events and create guides to eating, drinking, shopping and more. They will also publish stories, blog posts, photos, polls and other multimedia extras. They may be asked to coordinate with reporters and editors to keep the site fresh with flowing content and may also work on social media outreach.

Photo Intern
The internship requires candidates to have their own equipment, access to a car and the ability to travel within the coverage area. Interns will report to the Manhattan office and will often be out covering assignments. The ideal candidate would be familiar with the principles of photo shooting and editing. Knowledge of video is a plus. Candidates must submit samples of their work.

Social Media Intern
The ideal candidate is a smart, savvy, hard-working student with a good understanding/knowledge of community-building and newsgathering on social media sites. Candidates must submit writing samples. Please attach to resume.

Digital Reporter Intern
Web reporter interns will be asked to write news and feature stories as well as to help fact check copy. At times, they will also be asked to take photos or video or to create other multimedia extras.
