Journalism Internship

Media Organization: Time Inc./MONEY

Company Description

Money's goal is to help its nearly two million subscribers and newsstand buyers navigate every aspect of their financial lives—saving, investing, retirement planning, homeownership, health care, careers and spending. In a friendly and accessible style, we explain what you need to know about your money to reach your goals—and we tell you exactly how to act on that knowledge now, with smart advice and tips that are written in plain English, not financial jargon. Money has a broad reach, with a total readership of 7.9 million. The median age of the Money reader is 51, and they’re a relatively affluent group, with a median household income of around $98,000. Our website, CNNMoney (cnnmoney.com) is the world’s largest business and personal finance site with nearly 8 million unique users.

Job Description

Money, the nation’s largest personal finance magazine, is currently seeking interns for summer 2013.

Money interns join our reporter pool and work closely with writers and editors in all sections of the magazine. They are encouraged to pitch stories and usually get the opportunity to write short department items and sidebars, as well as to become part of the reporting team on larger features (including our signature franchise, The Best Places to Live in America). On a daily basis, interns will also be involved in providing background research and reporting for senior level writers, gathering data for graphics and fact-checking. Most interns spend at least a week working at the CNNMoney website. Interns will be invited to attend Money’s planning and story pitch meetings, as well as Time Inc.’s numerous intern events, which include talks with top company executives and editors.

We look for interns with strong reporting, interviewing and writing skills. The best are quick studies who can work independently, but know when to ask questions. It helps to be detail oriented and dogged about accuracy. Previous business reporting experience is not a requirement, but interest in our consumer and personal finance topics is.

The internship runs from the beginning of June to the beginning of August. This is a paid position, and Time Inc. will also provide dormitory style housing in New York at a nearby university.

To Apply

Applicants should send a cover letter, resume and two clips to Assistant Managing Editor Margaret Magnarelli (mmagnarelli@moneymail.com) by March 23.
