Job Description
MedicalDaily.com is seeking talented, driven writers to join our growing news team.
Our staff writers will be responsible for the development, production, and publication of original consumer health news on MedicaDaily.com. We are looking for writers to cover the following beats:
• Public Health (U.S. & World)
• Money and Policy
• Science and Tech
• Drugs and Treatments
• Fitness & Nutrition
You'll be given the opportunity to sign up for news stories developed by your editors and to pitch your own ideas. You will be digging through studies and press releases, making calls to well-known doctors, researchers, and policymakers, and working towards daily deadlines.
This is a contract position that reports directly to the lead editor of MedicalDaily.com, with the opportunity for growth into a staff position. Eventually, we will need senior writers/section editors to lead each of the sections listed above. We’re looking for writers with some schedule flexibility, and are open to having you work anywhere between 20 and 40 hours a week. The job is based in NYC.
Desired Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have had some exposure to editorial production, and have some understanding of web publishing. Interest in consumer health, health information, science, and technology is a plus.
• A bachelors degree in English, communications, media, or related field
• At least 1 years of reporting experience required (or currently working towards a master’s degree in journalism)
• Experience in health, wellness, and science content a plus
• Ability to write multiple stories throughout the day under tight deadlines
• High standards of editorial integrity
• Highly organized, accurate, and detail-oriented
• Able to manage multiple projects at one time
• Exposure to Photoshop and image editing
• Knowledge of basic HTML
• Some understanding of web publishing and SEO is a plus
