Job Description
Position Title:
Travel Weekly Editorial intern (unpaid)
Location:
Secaucus, NJ
General Duties:
Advanced introduction to editorial duties in a newsroom. Responsibility for compiling and writing biweekly deals column; some reporting and writing news and feature stories for print and website; assisting with production on our website; some light administrative duties as needed.
Logistics: 9-12 weeks (flexible); less than 20 hours per week (flexible). Schedule – somewhat flexible.
Qualifications:
Journalism, reporting and writing experience required, including experience writing and/or editing for a news publication.
Education Required / Preferred:
Third- or fourth year of college or equivalent
Computer Skills Required / Preferred:
Experience in Word required. Experience with a desktop publishing system, an Internet content management system, HTML and Photoshop is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills to be Gained:
Experience a fast-paced and professional working environment
Hone writing, editing and fact-checking skills
Sharpen newsgathering abilities and learn what makes a good news story and compelling read
Experience working for a live news website
Short-Term Skills:
Newsgathering, reporting and writing skills on deadline, with bylined clips
Learn to work in an Internet content management system, and a news website with multiple facets: News stories, multimedia (photo/video) presentations, blogs, Twitter, etc
Various elements of a newsroom: News story selection, links between print and web journalism, feature vs. news reporting, layout and art selection, working on deadline, interviewing and working with sources.
