Job Description

Associate Editor for Sustainable Design
GreenSource - McGraw Hill Construction
New York, NY

The Associate Editor reports to Architectural Record's managing editor. His or her primary responsibilities include overseeing the content of the GreenSource insert in the bi-monthly SNAP product magazine. GreenSource is our brand for sustainable design, and will be a magazine-within-a-magazine, beginning in 2014. Each insert will be a minimum of 12 editorial pages.

Responsibilities:

•Researching story ideas and working with other editors in developing them; assigning in-house or to freelance writers; producing articles and other copy; scouting and reporting on sustainable building products; obtaining photography and research for information graphics; researching and reporting on trends in green construction and building technology.

•The associate editor is also editor of the website GreenSource.com, responsible for assigning and editing copy and reporting news articles for the website and generating newsletters three times a month.

•The associate editor will also contribute to Architectural Record and work with Record's products editor and with the senior editor of building technology on articles/features on green construction, design and products.

Qualifications

Required:

•A bachelor's degree and three years editorial experience.

•Strong writing and reporting skills are essential.

•Good organizational and multi-tasking skills are also necessary, and a strong interest and knowledge of sustainable design and building are a plus.

•The associate editor, like the rest of the staff, is expected to actively engage in regular editorial meetings, as well as to meet with customers, sources, public relations specialists and others.

•We are a small staff, and all editors are expected to be flexible and available to attend special events, conferences, trade shows, which may take place after hours or involve travel.

•Travel may also be necessary for covering certain articles or features.
