Job Description

The financial technology reporter’s main responsibilities include writing online spot news, industry conference coverage, and interviewing and developing industry sources for ongoing coverage of key operational, regulatory, post-trade and IT issues. Sources include: operations and IT managers at banks, hedge funds, asset managers, and other financial services firms; executives and managers at IT vendors, service providers, consultancies and specialist providers; and analysts at market research firms focused on the financial services industry.

There will also be opportunities to contribute to the quarterly digital magazine. The news editor will provide sources for news coverage and projects but the financial technology reporter must create news contacts. The ideal candidate will have the capabilities to find and write breaking news and spot news quickly. The candidate will report to the news editor and publisher.

Attributes: Candidates should have strong communication, writing, interviewing and research skills. They will have to be unrelenting when chasing down major stories and in cultivating key industry sources. Previous experience in covering IT management issues or in covering securities trading issues is a major plus.
