Job Description

Weather.com is expanding. The leading website for weather news and information has a contract opportunity for a freelance asset coordinator.

The ideal candidate will know how to research and acquire rights for images and videos that appear across our many digital platforms. The ideal candidate would also know how to create content that grabs audiences and understand how users consume content online. This position will be based at The Weather Channel New York headquarters.

Specific Responsibilities
Work with photographers, artists and videographers to acquire rights for their content
Identify great stories, galleries and videos among our content partners' pitches
Identify news stories that would fit under the weather vertical
Required Skills
Experience in stock photography, photojournalism, subscription-based image banks (AP, Getty Images, Corbis, Caters News Agency) and images under the Creative Commons license
Resourceful and responsible when obtaining images and video and interacting with social media communities
Conceive and develop strong creative ideas, with an ability to produce and manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision
Proven ability to understand what is share-worthy on social media, such as Reddit, Upworthy, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.
Sharp writing and editing skills with an ability to craft headlines that engage readers
Experience in a breaking news environment
Must be organized, detail-oriented, have excellent follow-through in all phases of each project
High comfort level with various content management systems
Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Photo Mechanic, Adobe Bridge and Final Cut Pro
Knowledge of SEO best practices and HTML
