Journalism Job

Media Organization: The Myanmar Times

Company Description

The Myanmar Times has been publishing since 2000, and recently launched the nation’s only independent English-language daily, just ahead of the crucial 2015 elections. We operate a dynamic, dual-language newsroom, and also print a weekly in Myanmar language.

Job Description

The Myanmar Times is seeking a full-time production journalist to join its award-winning news team. The production journalist will be responsible for designing pages, as well as writing accurate and eye-catching headlines and captions. The position will also entail proof-reading and copy-editing, with occasional sub-editing. The successful candidate should be proficient at using Adobe InDesign and have experience in newspaper design, layout and copy-editing. Attention to detail and accuracy is essential, as is the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Please note, this is not a reporting position, though there may be occasional opportunities to do some reporting. We are looking for a skilled designer with an eye for detail and a zeal for clean copy. Experience working in a foreign newsroom is preferred and knowledge of Myanmar and Southeast Asia is a plus. Respect for local culture and values is vital.

The position is five days a week, Sunday to Thursday, and is based in Yangon. Working hours for this position are noon to 9pm.
