Company Description

The Intercept is a digital news magazine dedicated to producing fearless, adversarial journalism that brings accountability to powerful governmental and corporate institutions.

Created to provide an outlet for reporting on the disclosures made by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, The Intercept features news analysis and investigative reporting on abuses of power in government, corporate America and beyond. It was founded in 2014 by Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras and Jeremy Scahill.

Job Description

The Intercept is looking for a journalism student or recent graduate to help us expand our audience. The ideal candidate is a digital native who is passionate about the topics we cover and excited about experimenting on different platforms. We’re looking for someone who comes in with ideas about engaging with our readers and promoting our journalism - without resorting to clickbait.

Responsibilities:

Help with the day-to-day promotion of our work on Facebook, Twitter and other networks
Pitch ideas for reader engagement projects
Moderate website comments
Work on newsletter highlighting The Intercept’s top stories
Brainstorm strategies for building our presence on emerging social and mobile platforms

Qualifications:

Established presence on Twitter, Facebook and at least two other social networks (please include links with your application)
Strong news judgment and ethical standards
Knowledge and interest in topics related to national security, governmental surveillance and social justice
