Job Description

The newsday.com News Editor helps run the homepage and mobile fronts at one of the nation’s leading newspapers, located in the New York metropolitan area. You’ll also take a leading role identifying opportunities to increase page views and unique visitors and creating content to better serve our Long Island audience.

Responsibilities:
*Runs the day-to-day programming and breaking news coverage and oversees Web producers and interns.
*Closely monitors and analyzes metrics, audience data and other media websites.
*Works with online and print editors, photographers, videographers and other staff across department lines to create multimedia content.
*Creates compelling multimedia stories, extras, projects, etc.
*Represents the digital team in daily and other meetings.
*Helps develop and implement strategies to improve site design and usability to increase traffic.
*In time, helps develop and oversee digital projects such as those found at newsday.com/data.
This position requires working Tuesday-Saturday.

Requirements:
*Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.
*3-5 years of digital news experience and experience working in a newsroom.
*Strong news judgment and breaking news experience.
*Uses news Content Management Systems.
*Track record of creating compelling online content and meeting metrics goals.
*Knows Omniture, Google Analytics or other metrics platforms.
*Excellent managerial and communication skills.
*Comfortable with Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms.
*Solid copy editor and writer.
*Knows or is familiar with HTML, javascript, CSS, photo editing, social media, mobile apps and the latest news practices.
*Reliable transportation to and from Newsday’s suburban Melville office.
