Job Description
Stuck in a rut at work? Looking for a new position and a company that will challenge you? The Myanmar Times is seeking a full-time, night editor to join its award-winning news team based in Yangon, Myanmar.
The night editor will be responsible for the final layout of the news pages, as well as writing accurate and eye-catching headlines and photo captions. The position will also entail proofreading, with occasional sub-editing. There is also room to work with the online side in promoting stories and engaging with readers on social media throughout the evening shift.
With a high degree of responsibility in supervising the final layout and edit of the pages, the successful candidate will be detail-oriented, have excellent news judgment and experience working in a fast-paced, daily newsroom setting.
The candidate should be proficient at using Adobe InDesign and have experience in newspaper design, layout and copy-editing. The ability to juggle multiple tasks and complete them both quickly and accurately is essential.
Experience working in a foreign newsroom is preferred, and respect for local culture and values is absolutely necessary.
The position is five days a week, Sunday to Thursday, and is based in Yangon. The shift will run from 2pm to 10pm. The salary is competitive and will be based on experience.
Job requirements:
• Experience in newsroom production and page layout using Adobe InDesign
• A minimum of three years of professional newsroom experience at a fast-paced, English-language daily
• A strong understanding of news writing, journalistic integrity and story structure
• Copy-editing skills
• English-language fluency
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work to tight deadlines with a quick turnaround
• Experience working in Southeast Asia and in a bilingual newsroom preferred
