Weather.com is expanding. The leading website for weather news and information is looking for an assistant photo editor. The ideal candidate is a savvy and resourceful reporter, and knows how to research and acquire rights for images and videos that appear across our many digital platforms. The ideal candidate has excellent writing and editing skills and knows how to create digital content that grabs audiences. He or she is passionate about photography, photojournalism and visual storytelling.

This position will be based at The Weather Channel New York headquarters.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Work with photographers, artists and videographers to acquire rights for their content
• Generate photography-focused story ideas for our science and travel verticals
• Identify news, viral, trending and features stories that would appeal to weather.com audiences
• Produce stories and slideshows
• Be willing to work in a breaking news situation when severe weather occurs
• Brainstorm and collaborate with weather.com digital content team

Required Skills:

• Experience in photography and photojournalism
• Knowledge of subscription-based image banks (AP, Getty Images, Corbis, Caters News Agency) and images under the Creative Commons license
• Resourceful and responsible when obtaining images and video and interacting with social media communities
• Be able to conceive and develop strong creative ideas, with an ability to produce and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Sharp writing and editing skills with ability to craft headlines that engage readers
• Must be organized, detail-oriented, have excellent follow-through in all phases of each project, and must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, breaking news environment
• High comfort level with various content management systems
• Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Photo Mechanic, Adobe Bridge and Final Cut Pro
• Knowledge of SEO best practices and HTML
Requirements:
• BA in a related field (Journalism, Communications, etc.)
• Relevant work or internship experience
