Job Description

News Deeply – the company called the "future of news” – is hiring a Managing Editor for Arctic Deeply (www.newsdeeply.com/arctic).

This is an opportunity to make a real difference by providing the world with independent, holistic coverage of the Arctic and its many challenges.

We're looking for a seasoned journalist and manager with substantial expertise in and passion for the Arctic. S/he will lead the editorial direction of the website and produce and commission stories on Arctic, governance, geopolitics, security, policy, indigenous rights, and energy/resource development.

S/he should have at least 10 years of experience as a journalist or editor with a daily news outlet or magazine. S/he should also have proven management and leadership skills, such as an ability to develop and manage contributors and work well with teams. We’re looking for someone who is organized, a self-starter and highly motivated. This is a full-time role.

The Managing Editor:

Leads the platform’s editorial direction and content gathering operations, ensuring the platform is up-to-date and gives our users complete understanding of the Arctic
Leads the platform’s day-to-day operations with an operating philosophy that values coaching, management and News Deeply’s values
Coordinates and plans the platform’s content
Writes the weekly Executive Summary and contributes interviews, analyses an reporting as necessary
Works closely with News Deeply’s CCO and other departments (sales, marketing, editing, etc) to provide high levels of efficiency and quality in the finished product
Helps with the development and management of an Arctic Deeply community of experts who both use and contribute to the platform and events
Increases audience engagement and traffic to site by actively assisting with social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc)
Represents Arctic Deeply with professionalism at events
Regularly and actively contributes to an open sharing of ideas as we seek to perpetually improve our products

Qualifications:
Solid background (10 years+) in journalism, preferably at a major newspaper, website or magazine
Advanced understanding of the Arctic
Very strong writing and editing skills
Advanced multimedia skills desirable
