Media Organization: NYU Radical Listening Project
Company Description
NYU Radical Listening project. The Radical Listening Project is dedicated to the development and exploration of radical listening - listening which goes to the root of an issue and that is transformational. A critical part of the project is the engagement of researchers and practitioners across a diverse set of disciplines in the use of the Listening Guide: a method of
collecting and analysing qualitative data, based on the logic of the psyche and the process of psychological inquiry. A second aspect of our work is bringing the Listening Guide to encounters entailing “difficult listening” - where the boundaries of conflict and difference block the capacity to speak and to listen, to hear and be heard. Our hope is to help develop pathways to a mode of listening that challenges one to put aside categories or prior assumptions, biases and the need to defend held positions – a form of listening driven by curiosity rather than judgment, by an interest in discovery rather than proof.
