The Comptroller’s responsibilities include:
Conducting performance and financial audits of all City agencies;
Serving as a fiduciary to the City’s five public pension funds totaling nearly $160 billion in assets;
Providing comprehensive oversight of the City’s budget and fiscal condition;
Reviewing City contracts for integrity, accountability and fiscal compliance;
Resolving claims both on behalf of and against the City;
Ensuring transparency and accountability in setting prevailing wage and vigorously enforcing prevailing wage and living wage laws; and
Promoting policies that enhance City government’s commitment to efficiency, integrity and performance for all New Yorkers.
The Comptroller leads a staff of about 800 employees—including accountants, attorneys, economists, engineers, IT professionals, budget, financial and investment analysts, claim specialists and researchers, and administrative support staff. Job Description
The New York City Comptroller’s Office is seeking a Press Intern for its fast-paced, deadline-driven communications team. Press Office staff serve as the Comptroller's official spokespeople, arrange press conferences and interviews, write background documents, and handle communications for the office. Some exposure to and/or familiarity with communications/press office operations is preferred and so is the ability to work well under time constraints. Most importantly, we are looking for exceptional people with an unwavering willingness to work hard, accept challenges and learn. This role is perfect for communications or public policy major looking to build their experience and exposure in a fast-paced press office.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Maintain the internal press calendar;
• Support press staff for announcements/press conferences;
• Compile clips email;
• Draft first round of “lower priority” press releases, eblasts, and advisories;
• Monitor social media/draft tweets; and,
• Perform other related assignments as may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program.
PREFERRED SKILLS IN ADDITION TO MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Successful candidates will have excellent communication and research skills and relevant education and experience;
• Must demonstrate responsiveness, reliability, and be able to handle several projects simultaneously in a fast paced and deadline-driven environment;
• Exposure/familiarity with cutting-edge social media techniques is strongly preferred, as is familiarity with programs like Photoshop and InDesign. Photography and graphic design skills are a plus;
• Excellent writing, editing, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills (includes Microsoft Office Suite proficiency) expected.
