Journalism Internship

Media Organization: The Villager, Chelsea Now, Downtown Express, Manhattan Express

Company Description

Large and growing company of community weekly papers and publications covering Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, NYC Caribbean community, LGBT community, etc. But this internship will focus on Manhattan community weekly papers.

Job Description

We are seeking interns to do news reporting and writing, possibly help with our Police Blotter, and also help compile arts and entertainment / community events listings. It's a plus if news interns can also take their own photos.

Our Manhattan newspaper group covers most of the borough from the Battery up through Harlem, with somewhat of an emphasis on the Downtown / Village area. News interns will be able to contribute reporting and writing news from the start. Interns may also be able to do arts writing, as well, but news coverage is our focus and probably our biggest need.

Ability to help with proofreading of pages for weekly print newspaper edition is also a plus. Articles are published in print and online.

Our internships are all unpaid. Over all, a great learning experience and opportunity to do coverage in Manhattan and build up clips. Hours are flexible, basically whatever the intern can offer. Office is in MetroTech, Downtown Brooklyn, but reporters will be able to be out in the field covering stories, and the option of covering meetings, often at night, if that's something intern is up for doing. Though some stories may be done from phone, etc.
