Media Organization: The Years Project

Company Description

THE YEARS PROJECT is a team of former 60 Minutes producers who have won a combined 13 Emmy Awards. We created the climate TV series YEARS OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY, which set the standard for climate storytelling on television. Now we are doing the same on social media. In 2018 we produced one to two short-form social media videos every day, the average of which netted 3.9 million views. We have the largest social following of any environmental group except Greenpeace, and a partner network with a reach of more than 230 million. So far this year, the videos we’ve released on social media have gotten 500 million views. Next year we anticipate them to get more than a billion.

Job Description

The YEARS Project (YEARS) is seeking a focused and savvy short-form video producer to research, write and produce two to three 3 to 5-minute videos per week about climate change for release on social media. The position requires the ability to work independently and in collaboration with a team of other producers/writers/fact checkers in making content for our established verticals: CLIMATE FACTS, WE CAN SOLVE THIS, WAR ON OUR FUTURE, TIME TO VOTE ON CLIMATE, as well as help develop new formats and series.

Each script you generate will need to be 350-500 words in length and require the grabbiest of headlines. Editorial content within must be sourced from established media, climate publications, academic journals or your own original reporting. Then, with the help of an editor, you will turn your scripts into videos that are informative, provocative, emotional and above all, shareable. The videos will rely heavily on text overlaid on content from our footage library, other archival sources and occasionally fresh footage from the field, which you may be required to produce. Skill in coming up with fresh ideas for stories and creative ways to tell them in video form is a must. Knowledge of climate science, policy, law, activism or other related topics is a plus. There will be opportunities to produce in the field, and candidate needs to have AP-level experience in casting, budgeting, booking crews and managing logistics of shoots. This is a long-term staff position based in New York and is available immediately.
