Journalism Job

Media Organization: The Chief

Company Description

The Chief-Leader is a New York City-based newspaper and website that has long focused on municipal government, civil servants, and the issues affecting state and federal employees. We also recently expanded to cover issues of broad concern to all working people in the private and public sectors as well as in the gig economy.

Job Description

The Chief, a weekly print publication and website covering labor and work issues, public- and private-sector unions, government and law enforcement, is seeking a beat reporter whose responsibilities will be determined based on their interests and our needs.

We’re looking for an eager, collaborative colleague who can come up with compelling story ideas, and then report and write them well. They should have the temperament and confidence to engage with often recalcitrant city and state officials and PIOs, as well as union leaders and their cohorts.

We are under new ownership and have just redesigned the paper and are now turning our attention to polishing the website. We are also broadening our scope to cover the world of work and labor generally, further opening up possibilities for stories.

Candidates must be vaccinated and live in the city. We are back in our Tribeca offices and will continue to work from there a few times a week, as conditions permit.
