Journalism Job

Media Organization:TRUE

Company Description

TRUE is a production company led by an award-winning investigative journalist, with multiple film projects currently in production at major studios.

We are looking to hire a research assistant based in New York to find and develop story ideas, go into the field with us on shoots, and bring his or her investigative reporting experience to bear. The ideal candidate is a recent college graduate with a few years of newsroom experience who is hungry to collaborate with our small, motivated team as we expand our footprint in the film/TV space. Our employees don't just have a job at TRUE -- they carve their own path into Hollywood as they help pitch projects, secure producing credits, and enjoy year-end performance bonuses.

Job Description

The best candidates will have the following traits:

— Curiosity! You get distracted reading about the variety and weirdness of life — e.g. Wikipedia wormholes, a tattered copy of Newsweek from 1992, a book about steam heating on Grandma’s shelf, etc.
— Exceptional writing and editing skills
— Real drive, whether its to master an obscure online database or hop on a 6 am flight to Dallas for a surprise shoot
— Sleuthing skills on social media
— Unafraid to knock on doors and make cold calls
— Detail oriented, with a “turn every page” ethos
— Able do legal research on PACER and at local courts (or a desire to learn how!)
— Bonus points for speaking a second language, an ability to design pitch decks, audio and video editing experience, and any time previously spent on film sets

To Apply

To be considered, please email a brief 2-3 paragraph introduction about yourself, a resume, and a story idea you had recently that shows how your reporting brain works: David Gauvey Herbert (daveherbert@gmail.com)
