The Role
We’re seeking a reporter to write stories for Payload’s newsletter and website. This role is ideal for an entrepreneurial journalist looking to help shape coverage at a startup media organization.
Salary: $3,500 a month for a 90-day contract period. Upon completing the 90-day period, this role will automatically convert into a full-time role at an annual compensation of $60,000. You'll be able to work remotely anywhere in the United States. Benefits include 100% premium coverage for health insurance, stock compensation, and unlimited PTO.
In this role, you will:
- Pitch, report, and write stories for Payload’s newsletters and website
- Conduct research to support development of stories and inform longer-term projects
- Contribute aggregation of space industry news for the bottom half of the daily newsletter
- Develop and engage a source network of industry insiders to fuel content strategy and news coverage
- Contribute to editorial strategy
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has an eye for detail and checks facts meticulously
- Is a recent journalism graduate or early-career reporter
- Has an interest in business journalism, with bonus points if you are also interested in space and/or policy reporting.
- Can write quick, clean, accurate copy on deadline
- Is comfortable with, or willing to learn, Payload’s signature writing style
- Is prepared to regularly pitch enterprise story ideas, in addition to dailies and breaking news
