Journalism Job
Media Organization:Putnam Media Inc.
Company Description
Small privately owned Hudson Valley, NY based company that publishes two weekly paid newspapers, Putnam County Courier and Putnam County News and Recorder.
Job Description
Be the Boss, Make Your Mark on Community Journalism
Job Opening for an Editor and Publisher of two long-established weekly newspapers in the Lower Hudson Valley: the Putnam County Courier and the Putnam County News and Recorder. Experience preferred but not necessary – we will get you up to speed on the unfamiliar parts of the job.
The Editor and Publisher will work with a small staff, including part-timers, volunteers and freelancers, along with vendors and suppliers, to manage all aspects of the business, including editorial, production, advertising, subscriptions, social media, website, community relations and more. The two papers share many resources, including personnel and editorial content.
The editor can work remotely. Like much of the Lower Hudson Valley, it is a vibrant area culturally, socially and politically, with an engaged, sophisticated, small-town and semi-rural readership amid many lakes, beaches, parks, trails and other outdoor leisure opportunities. Manhattan is 50 miles away by car, and there are several Metro North train connections (typically 60-90min) to the city.
There is no requirement to live in Putnam County, but your own transportation will be necessary for meetings, interviews and reporting events. Pay will start in the mid-five figures, depending on experience, with a year-end bonus based on the papers’ financial performance.
