Urban Explained is a fast growing New York City focused media platform that produces visual explainers and short form civic journalism about housing, transit, development, zoning, infrastructure, and how the city works. Our videos reach hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers each week across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. We are expanding into written explainers on Substack and building a modern version of local news for NYC.

Job Description

Seeking a part time researcher and writer who can identify important NYC stories, gather reliable facts, prepare concise research packs, and convert scripts and research into short written explainers. This role blends research, reporting, and narrative clarity, and is ideal for students interested in local journalism, policy, housing, transit, or urban affairs.

Pay rate: $1,200 to $1,800/month for 10-15 hours per week
