Waging Nonviolence is looking to expand its coverage of movements and resistance efforts around the world. And we pay!

We want original, reported, lively, engaging, news and analysis features that explore how struggles for justice and peace are building power using nonviolent strategies and tactics. These are stories that should speak to a general audience and help facilitate a greater understanding of how change from the bottom-up actually happens.

We are currently seeking three types of freelance stories:

Regular features
These are timely stories (in the 1,500-word range) about current event issues, but with a focus on resistance and organizing. See these for recent examples.

Media policy features
Waging Nonviolence currently has a special (but limited time) grant that enables us to pay slightly more than our Regular Feature rate for stories about net neutrality and media policy, as they relate to activists and organizing. Here is an example:

Longform features
These are heavily researched, narrative-driven stories (in the 4,000-word range) with rich and detailed characters that draw readers into the world and drama of resistance movements. Here are some examples:

Blogger

Waging Nonviolence is seeking a journalist and/or activist with writing experience who can produce at least three posts per week about current events related to activism and resistance efforts around the world.

Writers should be versatile enough to provide insightful movement-oriented analysis on breaking news (for a variety of issues), as well as uncover overlooked stories that highlight the importance of organizing and people power.

Freelance Contributor

The Culture Trip is recruiting contributors (writers, photographers, and videographers) to generate New York centric content for our rapidly growing audience. Our collaborative environment allows contributors to pitch ideas as well as receive direction and topics from in-house editors and directors.

We offer global exposure in an inundated industry as well as the opportunity to grow with our company. While there is currently no cash payment, we provide young writers and creatives the opportunity to network and gain transferable writing and editing skills.

Freelance writer

Brooklyn Based is seeking a general interest, daily writer/blogger with a strong voice and great ideas to expand the content of the site to include local and national news. You'll have creative freedom to help shape the future direction of the site, publishing one 300- to 500-word story a day to start, and will help maintain a more active presence on social media, posting regularly to our social media channels.

Contract Reporter

We are looking for a reporter to work in our New York office for five days each month on a contract freelance basis. You will write for our website and different sections of the paper, focusing on news and art market. You will be supervised by the US News editor, working closely with colleagues in the London and New York offices.

Our ideal candidate has experience of writing hard news stories. You will be able to generate your own pitches and also to take briefings from our editors.

You will be familiar with The Art Newspaper in its various forms: in print, online and through the papers we produce at the Basel and Frieze art fairs.

You must be able to write clearly, accurately and to deadline. You should have an eye for detail, be highly organized and have good interpersonal skills. You will be widely-read and up to date on art news.

Your application should include a cover letter, resume and two references. Please also send clips of what you consider to be your finest writing (no more than three) as PDF files.

Video News Project

We need a student with some news/interview experience to shoot/edit a series of short pieces produced by me and conducted in my office or on location.

Honorarium of $300 per project.

Music Contributor - Electrohome Record Players

As a blogger for Electrohome.com we want to give you the freedom to:
-Review your favorite vinyl albums
-Discuss vinyl and any other music topics

Your article will be posted to http://electrohome.com/blog/ and we will include a brief bio and image of you (if you wish)

This starts off as an unpaid contributor. There is opportunity for paid placements after an initial trial run. We're looking for anyone who loves music, and more specifically vinyl and loves to discuss what's big in 2014.

Part-Time Writer

Phactual is seeking a part-time writer to join our team. Our ideal candidate is someone who is already familiar with pop culture and also has an interest in facts, trivia and other more “cultured” knowledge areas. A Phactual contributor will be posting content daily on Phactual in an array of topics. You should be able to work extremely quickly, as many times our posts are reactions to things happening real time.

This is a paid opportunity.

Write “listical” articles to be shared on Facebook, Twitter & Pinterest
Pitch article/topic ideas in brainstorm sessions
Being on top of current news & pop culture happenings
Perform article research as assigned by the Phactual team

Reorg Research Brazil Corporate Credit Reporter

Reorg Research’s Latin American coverage aims to provide investors and other financial professionals with market-leading intelligence on high-yield, distressed debt and corporate restructurings in the region. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of covering the Mexican corporate debt market and the broader LatAm financial markets. Fluency in Portuguese and ability to read and write in English is a must.

The journalist will be hired on a freelance/contract basis and expected to break news and produce stories consisting of a mix of company intelligence and sector-focused situations. Reorg Research is based in New York, but the position will be based in the local market on. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a dynamic group of reporters, analysts, lawyers and investors and will be interested in assuming more responsibility to grow a new product within the existing company.

Requirements include:
-Outgoing personality with a drive to get out in the market and develop sources to produce market-moving news.
-Strong communication skills and positive attitude to work with a team of journalists based throughout the region
-An understanding of fixed-income securities, balance sheets and the broader financial markets
-Strong writing and analytical skills

Reorg Research Argentine Credit Market Reporter

Reorg Research’s Latin American coverage aims to provide investors and other financial professionals with market-leading intelligence on high-yield, distressed debt and corporate restructurings in the region. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of covering the Argentine corporate and sovereign debt market and the broader LatAm financial markets.

Fluency in Spanish and ability to read and write in English is a must. The journalist will be will be hired on a freelance/contract basis and expected to break news and produce stories consisting of a mix of company intelligence and sector-focused situations.

Reorg Research is based in New York, but the position will be based in the local market. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a dynamic group of reporters, analysts, lawyers and investors and will be interested in assuming more responsibility to grow a new product within the existing company.
