Writing & Editorial Intern

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
Do you dream of writing quality material on inspiring topics that make a positive difference in the world?

We are looking for a bright and creative intern with strong writing skills for Fall 2018 to create unique articles for our newsletter, blog and our social media handles that will inform and inspire our growing social impact community. You will mainly write articles that leverage the good work and advise from our growing community of expert advisors and nonprofits. You’ll also have the creative freedom to come up with your own ideas.

This is a great role for someone who loves to write, is looking to expand their style and writing ability and is looking to build their portfolio. You will be expected to help in other functions such as public relations and social media, which will broaden your exposure. Interns that perform well may be considered for employment upon completion of the internship.

This is a part-time position in our Greenwich Village office, but scheduling is flexible and some remote work is also possible. The internship is unpaid, but comes with great portfolio-building opportunities, a fun work environment, and hands-on experience with leading grantmakers, nonprofits, and social impact change-makers. This internship may be used to receive academic credit.

You will be working with us, a passionate startup team looking to make a positive difference in the world through content, community, and technology. We are looking for someone who can start ASAP!

Editorial Internship

Interns are an important part of Salon’s daily editorial operations. They work closely with Salon staff to research, report, write and produce our news and culture coverage. They also learn about the day-to-day workings of an award-winning online news and entertainment site. Many Salon interns have gone on to jobs in the media, including Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Elle, CNN and, of course, Salon.

Newsroom intern(s), fall

Straus News, which in Manhattan comprises four weekly newspapers, seeks capable and enthusiastic editorial interns for the fall semester.
Interns will work out of our Manhattan office on Eighth Avenue, near 35th Street, covering local neighborhood news on the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, downtown and Chelsea. Interns work closely with editorial staff, attend weekly story meetings and report on and write everything from arts features to investigations.
We require interns to commit to at least two full weekdays, about 16 hours a week. Days and times are flexible. Internships are unpaid and MUST be eligible for school credit.
Duties include:
• Reporting and writing profiles, Q&As, feature stories, news stories, investigative pieces, news briefs, and other stories
• Attending weekly editorial meetings
• Pitching stories
• Helping research investigative stories
• Doing "man-on-the-street" interviews
• Taking photos and videos
Interns will report on local government, transportation, small businesses, schools, crime, the arts and development, as well as write profiles.
We like stories that inform our smart, loyal readers about their neighborhoods, stories they are not likely to read elsewhere.
We do not do reviews, either of arts events or food/restaurants, but we do stories about the people behind those events and restaurants.
Interns will get help, advice and suggestions on pitching stories, developing them, reporting and research, and writing (and re-writing). At the end of their tenures, interns leave with a wealth of published clips, with the range of topics and story types determined by abilities and, at least in part, interests.

Editorial Intern

The Women’s Lifestyle Group at Hearst is looking for standout editorial interns for fall 2018. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in women’s interest magazines, be eager to learn, and be a hard worker with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities include researching and pitching for body and life sections, completing photo research, transcribing interviews, and working directly with the features department on various tasks.

This internship is unpaid and all applicants must be able to receive college credit and work at least 2 days a week. This internship will begin in August/September 2018 and end in December 2018.

FINTECH JOURNALISM INTERNSHIP

As we embark on our next venture, we are looking for a journalism student who is looking to experience the excitement of starting up a new business and help report about issues we’re facing and solving.
Initially as a summer intern with an opportunity to continue thereafter, we are looking to you to assist us in the writing and publication of social media articles to better communicate our ideas to a broad, international audience (thousands of readers). We want to shine a light on issues in our industry with a critical and humorous point of view. Eventually we would like to create a monthly newsletter to build community engagement and get our name out there.
We like to have fun and provide an opportunity for our intern to learn and gain real-world experience from the start. This is an internship where you will work and learn. No coffee making, nowhere to hide, but a real resume builder.
Our dream candidate is extremely organized, enjoys learning about a new industry, adaptable and resourceful — an individual who excels in a start-up environment and takes ownership of their projects. Ideally you would have some experience writing social media articles and copy writing. Experience with LinkedIn, Photoshop and InDesign is a plus.
Our office is everywhere. A subway, a plane, a café, our living rooms. We expect you will enjoy working similarly.
The internship would start in August and we would discuss how much work you can do with us initially. There may also be some weeks where we’d ask you to work with us more than others. Candidates must be over the age of 21 and payment is negotiable.

Editorial Intern

Manhattan magazine, Modern Luxury's lifestyle publication serving NYC, seeks editorial interns for the fall term. Applicants should have a passion for editorial work and topics like wellness, food, the arts, culture, design, society and fashion. We are a small and fast-paced staff, and this is not a coffee-fetching, copy-making internship—Our interns do story and photo research, transcribe interviews, fact check, oversee a few administrative duties and have writing opportunities when appropriate that allow opportunities to build a portfolio of published clips. Previous internship experience is optimal. Organizational skills and resourcefulness are required. Interns must be available at least two full days per week (10-5) to work out of our Manhattan offices. The internship is unpaid, and college credit MUST be received.

Features Intern

Marie Claire’s features department is looking to hire bright, detail-oriented editorial interns for the fall 2018 semester. Candidates must have an interest in career news, international women’s news, entertainment/culture, and relationships. This is NOT a fashion internship.

We’re looking for interns who can work  two days a week. The internship is unpaid and all applicants must be able to receive school credit.

Research/Production Intern

Liz Garbus' production company, Moxie Firecracker Films, is looking for 1-2 research interns for the Fall semester 2 days/week each.

Interns will be exposed to all aspects of documentary research, pre-production and post-production. Bonus: An intern with legal experience.

Editorial Intern

Editorial internship tasks include assisting with copy-editing, fact-checking, research, CMS, social media, conducting artist interviews, writing contribution, and zine distribution.
