Fall Journalism Internship

XCon Productions, an accredited Emmy award winning Production Company in NY, is looking for a bright and reliable production intern to join the team to learn the ins and outs of developing programming for broadcast TV.

The production intern will gain hands on experience collaborating closely with established directors and producers, as well as, develop the necessary skills for a future in Journalism.

The Journalism Intern will be sitting in on production meetings and story discussions taking notes, and discussing solutions to everyday problems that occur in the world of production.

The intern will also sit in with the archival department learning the intricacies of obtaining and preparing archival material for broadcast.

Interns will receive college credit along with a stipend for travel and meals, and have one on ones with directors and producers to discuss work flows and how to efficiently manage time and responsibilities throughout a production.

Potential candidates are required to submit a resume along with a 100 word summary of why they wish to pursue a career in the field of Journalism.

The internship will run from August to December.

 

Editorial/ Social Media Intern

The Gramlist is hiring! We’re looking for a detail-oriented fall editorial intern with a great voice and thorough knowledge of the social sphere, especially Instagram. In addition to researching, writing and editing content for our weekly editorial newsletters, interns will have the opportunity to assist in producing our monthly magazine, Gramlist.50, the “world’s first influencer marketing magazine.”

Data Journalism Intern

City & State is a weekly magazine on New York politics, geared toward political insiders and enthusiasts. We are accepting fall internship applications from students seeking data journalism experience and who want to develop NY Freedom of Information Law request (FOIL) expertise for grad school credit. We will select one City & State Data Journalism Intern.

The intern will begin Sept. 13 in the editorial department and will work on creating a streamlined FOIL request and request tracking process. The goal is to provide a unique opportunity to develop expertise in making FOI requests and data-centric day stories.

The internship may also involve research, reporting, posting on social media and other related responsibilities. The internship runs about 3 months during the fall semester, 10-20 hours per week; start date and time frame flexible. Position is unpaid; interns MUST be able to receive academic credit.

This person will need to have a facility with spreadsheets, a keen interest in FOIA/FOIL requests and be excited by the treasure trove of previously-undisclosed government data they can provide, as well as an strong interest in pursuing data-driven, investigative journalism in the public interest.

DOCUMENTARY PRODUCTION INTERN

Intern would be crucial to both the production office and edit room - he/she would get to see how the production & post-production phases come together.

Intern would be communicating with key members of the team - producers, editor, director.

Specific tasks include
- Compiling research for upcoming shoots and interviews
- Organizing production transcripts
- Maintaining archive (including photos and videos)
- Various day-to-day tasks including mailings

Please note, this is not an "on-set" position. All work within the office.

Very hands-on; we're a small team which makes for a great learning experience.

Unpaid internship but we are happy to provide Metrocard stipend.

Must be able to work 2 full days per week - beginning in the next few weeks.

Marie Claire Fall Features Internship

Marie Claire’s features department is looking to hire bright, detail-oriented editorial interns for fall 2017. Candidates must have an interest in career news, international women’s news, entertainment/culture, and relationships. This is NOT a fashion internship.

We’re looking for interns who can work two consecutive days. The internship is unpaid and all applicants must be able to receive school credit.

Newsweek Motion Graphics Intern

Newsweek Motion Graphics Intern

Intern will:

Support the video team in editing, designing and researching original content with a focus on graphics and motion-driven video news packages, particularly for social and mobile audiences. He/she will gain experience bringing news stories to life through motion graphics and graphic design.

The intern will gain experience navigating content management systems online and for publication and working with journalists. The ideal candidate has a working basic knowledge of after effects, photoshop and premiere, and is excited to learn more through hands on experience.

This is an internship for credit.

Required Qualifications
· Basic understanding of Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop
· Ability and willingness to teach yourself based on online tutorials and forums
· Must be a team player, flexible and proactive in fast-changing news environment, and able to anticipate department needs.

Preferred Skills
· Knowledge of Illustrator, Cinema 4D, Maya, Blender or Flash

Newsweek Digital Multimedia/Video Editing Intern

Intern will:
Work with producers to develop skills in writing, editing and producing short, catchy videos for all Newsweek Media Group brands and platforms, including mobile and social.
Learn how to manage a production and publishing schedule
Gain experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, etc.)
Work closely with Executive Producer, Video Production Manager and Senior Producer on developing videos from start to finish
Work closely with Video Manager to help promote video work online through our social media accounts (posts, etc.)
Work within the fast paced news cycle and with video and editorial content management systems
Maintain various spreadsheets that help keep organization
Learn to pitch ideas and visualize these ideas into a compelling short video
Transcribe interviews, etc.
This is an internship for credit.

Required Qualifications:
Passion for journalism, and creative storytelling, strong professional judgment and drive to innovate
Basic proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud's Premiere and professional camera gear. Awareness of video and editorial content management systems
Self starter and eagerness to contribute new ideas
Must be able to work under pressure, handle situations quickly
Must be able to multi-task and have high attention to detail
Must have some knowledge of social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook
Able to work in a team environment and work well with others
Plus: knowledge of After Effects and social media

BBC Learning Intern

BBC Learning Team in NY is looking for creative interns to assist with production short form videos for the educational market. Interns will have a unique opportunity to be fully involved in multiple aspects of production including research, editing, rights and clearances, pitching and business development.
