[American Theatre Magazine Intern]
Intern will work closely with the staff of the magazine, assisting with a variety of editorial and administrative tasks such as fact checking, proofreading, photo research, and story planning, with the possibility of some writing assignments. Candidates must have strong journalism skills. Intern may also work with the book program, assisting in editorial duties.

Strong writing ability, excellent news judgement, a sound understanding of economics and multimedia skills are all essential. Knowledge of global affairs, technology & cyber security, and are desirable.
Primary responsibility is to support the senior editorial staff. Responsibilities include proofreading, research, drafting of content, liaising with contributors and news sources, coordination of submission deadlines, social media and marketing assistance.
This is a high-profile, fast-paced job that requires excellent news judgment, a steady head and an ability to make smart, quick decisions under pressure. This position will be based in the heart of the SoHo, New York newsroom and will be a key to senior leaders and our digital team.
The successful applicants can be new to the industry of journalism; but will be comfortable writing and editing the world's top stories to real-time deadlines.
The Program:
This is a three-month long internship program based out of Know Your Meme's New York City office in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It is an unpaid, part-time position; all applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level program at a college or university, preferably in pursuit of a degree in journalism, digital anthropology or library science. The internship may be used for academic credit, with the approval of your institution.
Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the position will consist of researching, writing and editing encyclopedic (long-form) and news articles (short-form) in a fast-paced, 24-hour digital newsroom environment, as well as indexing and organizing our ever-growing compendium of data points through the use of metadata. The editorial intern will work out of the office and report directly to the editor-in-chief, with a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week during the months of June, July and August.
Desirable Qualities:
- Mastery of the English composition and copyediting
- Familiarity with AP and Wikipedia Style Guides
- Working knowledge in HTML and Photoshop (or equivalent)
- In-depth knowledge of internet meme culture
- A history of active presence on Tumblr, Twitter or YouTube
- An existing member of Know Your Meme? A big plus!
We currently have a number of projects in pre-production and in production. We are looking for an enthusiastic self - starting intern who is passionate and eager to learn about documentary film. Duties will include researching, assistance with grant writing, helping to coordinate shoots, on-set production assistant for shoots, liaising with interview subjects, social media management and locating and transcribing footage .
