Social & Digital Media Intern

Right To Play USA is seeking a motivated, resourceful and tech-savvy student to serve as a Social & Digital Media Intern. The intern will work directly with the External Relations team to strategize, craft and execute content for all platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Medium. Applicants should have a strong level of experience with these channels, a demonstrated writing ability, organizational skills, the ability to work both as part of a team and solo, and creativity to spare. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to website publishing and redesign projects, monitoring and posting on blogs and social networks, engaging in online forums, participating in online outreach and promotion, optimizing our website and conducting keyword analysis. Hours: 3 days per week, 4 hours per day preferred (negotiable)

Experience:
• Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Non-profit Management or related field (3rd or 4th year preferred).
• Familiarity with social networking sites and basic website design.
• Experience with social media analytics, including Google Analytics and Facebook Insights.
• Basic knowledge of Photoshop.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite Office.
• Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments, and high attention to details.
• Strategic, creative and flexible.
• Basic event planning skills.
• Interest in the education, community development and sport/play-based development sector.

Duties include:
• Collaborate with External Affairs team to gain an understanding of how and what we communicate to reach our primary audiences (prospective donors, educators, non-profit sector, socially conscious individuals, etc.).
• Conceptualize, create and publish daily content (combining both original text and images as well as text, images and videos provided by Right To Play) that enhances affinity for Right To Play, share stories of our community’s successes, builds meaningful connections and encourages engagement.
• Employ innovative tactics to grow the audiences of Right To Play USA’s social media accounts.
• Develop long- and short-term communication strategies for fundraising and marketing campaigns.
• Track social media analytics using HooteSuite and other software, and report results and new ideas to our External Affairs team.
• Research as needed by External Affairs and Development teams. Effective communication of research results.
• Basic event planning and assistance.

Intern

Interns will first complete a short mentorship with first-year undergraduate journalism students in a developing country. Next, they will work on revising or creating new journalism curricula based on high professional standards. Toward the end of the internship program, the interns will study abroad in the mentee’s country. They will not only visit media outlets but also teach in the classroom and work on a small project with students that could lead to publication opportunities. This is followed by a reflection paper upon their return to the U.S. Interns will receive a certificate upon completion of the program.

Marketing & Media Intern

The Marketing & Media Intern will report directly to the Marketing & Engagement Specialist. S/he will support the marketing team in research and content creation for web and in some cases, will assist in the development of marketing materials and collateral. S/he will also help with the upkeep of New York’s social media channels and gain experience communicating with supporters, including The Nature Conservancy in New York’s Young Professionals Group, a vibrant network of individuals in their 20s and 30s. There might be opportunities for the intern to assist with events such as volunteer days, tabling outreach and career fairs in New York City. S/he will support the media relations team in the building of contact lists, updating and tracking of media lists and metrics, researching contacts and creating content and other written materials for media events. S/he will work on a variety of writing/editing, production and research assignments for the NYC-based marketing team, in addition to providing administrative support.

Journalist

Editorial Internship

This person will assist four editors, the publisher, and three other staff members in the New York City Targeted Periodicals group with the editorial tasks involved in publishing five publications. Those tasks include proofreading, fact-checking, writing, light copyediting, social media, research functions, art/photo searches, and other tasks as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications: Journalism or English major required; interest in medicine and health care helpful. Writing samples helpful. Requires excellent computer skills, verbal and written communications skills, and ability to handle fast pace, multiple assignments, and tight deadlines.

Fact Checking Intern

As fact checkers, Bookforum interns help us verify the accuracy of our reviews for both print and web. Interns will also be responsible for some light administrative work, like transcribing interviews and conducting research. We ask that interns commit to working two days per week (11am to 6pm) at our Manhattan office.
