Winter/Spring Writing Intern

The internship involves writing/researching articles and helping to expand the reach of the website. Great learning experience for a self-starter! We take mentoring very seriously. This is not a virtual placement; the person needs to be in New York City. If you can give 1 to 2 days a week and start in late December/early January, please apply right away. Must have good writing skills, be computer savvy, and able to perform some administrative work. The position is unpaid, but there is a stipend for local transportation.

Editorial Intern

The Stereogum Editorial Internship is an exclusive program that accepts a small number of applicants each semester. The program is open to students currently enrolled in journalism and/or creative writing programs who are able to receive academic credit for their involvement. Interns will work out of Stereogum’s offices in Midtown Manhattan.

The internship offered here is multifaceted. The right applicant will be involved with all aspects of the site's editorial and production process, which includes (but is not limited to): assisting writers and editors with research, transcription, and reporting; assembling posts in the site's admin; curating photo galleries; setting up video and audio streams; vetting new artists for coverage; assisting in curation and assembly of live events; and of course writing for Stereogum.

The right applicant will be highly ambitious and deeply plugged into new music, with goals to work in music journalism and/or the field of music. He or she should be a skilled writer with some web background as well as social media savvy.

US sports writer

90min, the cutting-edge global sports media platform, is looking for college interns to participate in our sports journalism internship program.

VOLUNTEER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Department: Foreign Affairs - Editorial

Semester: Spring 2016

CFR’s volunteer internships give selected volunteer interns the opportunity to receive training in the area of foreign policy; as well as skills training in areas such as writing, research, and program planning.

Foreign Affairs magazine has a volunteer internship opening in the Editorial Department. The volunteer intern will have the unique opportunity to see all of the inner workings of a major magazine.

The volunteer duties of the intern will include (but are not limited to):
• Supporting editors in search engine optimization and image research, social media, multimedia production, and article staging
• Attending Council meetings as time permits
• Other logistical support as needed

Qualifications:
• Undergraduate student with concentration in political science, international affairs, journalism, or related field
• Demonstrated interest in journalism and online publishing
• Past relevant internship experience preferred
• Some basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Superior attention to detail, with ability to juggle multiple priorities

New York Magazine Junior Reporting-Writing Internship Program

New York Media is pleased to offer a Junior Reporting-Writing Internship program. During the three-month program, interns will be responsible for identifying, researching, and reporting newsworthy stories for the Daily Intelligencer, New York Magazine’s news website. Journalism Intern

Position Description

The Journalism Intern will be responsible for supporting the Marketing Department in producing written content. The position would involve helping to tell the rich and compelling stories of Up2Us Sports Coach Across America coaches, Up2Us Sports member programs and the youth they serve to effectively communicate the impact of Up2Us Sports programs across multiple platforms. The position is intended for an individual interested in the sports-based youth development movement. Up2Us Sports provides a dynamic and flexible work environment comprised of a team of professionals dedicated to supporting underserved youth through sports. This is a non-paying position, and is based in New York City. The intern position can be for college credit, but is not required.

Position Responsibilities

Provide support to Marketing Department staff; Conduct interviews with coaches, member programs, youth and others; Writing stories based on interviews to be shared across multiple platforms; Assist with creating content for Up2Us Sports website, blog, social media channels, funder reports, etc.

Editorial Intern

FlockU is looking for editorial interns who like to challenge themselves and would benefit from working in a fast-paced editorial environment. FlockU, a startup slated to launch this fall, is looking for both undergrad and graduate journalism students, with excellent writing skills, a funny, fresh voice, and working knowledge of AP Style and web writing. Ideally, we'd like interns to be in the office a minimum of 20 hours per week, but are open to the opportunity of remote interns, as well.

Beauty & Health Intern

Town & Country is seeking a hard working, meticulous intern to directly assist the beauty and health department, beginning in January 2016. We are looking for interns who can work 2 days a week. Candidate must be a quick study, ambitious, pro-active, organized, prompt, curious of mind, and possess a positive attitude.

Editorial Internship

The Observer’s newsroom boasts a unique and tightly knit culture that benefits from both the energy and fearlessness of young reporters and as the experience and wisdom of editors. Interns are integrated into this environment and into the weekly production cycle of the paper, where they have the opportunity to gain invaluable reporting and general newsroom experience. When the paper is on deadline, interns are charged with fact-checking articles as they move from writer to editor to copy desk to production. When not on deadline, interns are encouraged to become acquainted with editors and writers, get involved in longer-term projects, and do their own reporting and writing for the paper. Interns are also expected to blog for the local New York vertical of the website.

Studio 360 intern/volunteer

Studio 360 is looking for sharp, enthusiastic self-starters, with or without radio skills, to participate in the program as interns and volunteers. We accept Interns who are currently enrolled in school or have graduated no more than 12 months before the start of the internship (January). We also welcome Volunteers, no longer in school, who want to explore radio and multimedia production.

Responsibilities

Studio 360’s internship is a hands-on experience. Interns and volunteers sit in on editorial meetings, gather research, pitch ideas, collect materials for the website, and learn a variety of tasks involved in producing a weekly program. Over the course of the term, interns and volunteers gain fundamental radio skills (including audio editing) and will assist staff mentors with producing segments for the show.

Terms last about four months and require at least a 21-hour commitment for interns (full-time interns are preferred); volunteers are asked to participate for as many hours as they are able. The internship takes place at WNYC in Lower Manhattan. There is a $12 stipend per day.

The deadline for the spring term is October 25, 2015.
