Editorial Intern

Scholastic Parent & Child magazine is looking for an intern to work in our Soho office 2-3 days a week this spring. Our interns are an important part of the editorial team and contribute to the print magazine, website and iPad app. We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, organized and hard-working. Duties include interviewing celebrities for our website, requesting and tracking product samples, conducting story research, attending photo shoots or press events as needed, and providing general administrative support. This internship is a great way to prepare yourself for a future role as an editorial assistant. Must receive school credit.

Editorial Research Internship

Saveur magazine, a leading food publication with a distinctly international focus, is currently looking for editorial research interns.

Responsibilities include researching stories that are in development, fact-checking and some administrative assistance. There are also many opportunities to write, from small front of book pieces to longer web articles.

Candidates must have excellent researching and writing skills and a demonstrated interest food and publishing. Knowledge of a foreign language is preferred, but not required.

Internship begins in late January/early February and runs through early May. We ask for a commitment of three full days per week, but can sometimes allow two day per week commitments.

The Arthur F. Burns Fellowship Program
U.S.-Germany Journalist Exchange

American print and broadcast journalists have until March 1, 2013, to apply for a two-month professional exchange program in Germany. Successful applicants will spend August and September living, working and reporting for their home and host news organizations from across the Atlantic.

The Arthur F. Burns Fellowships is a competitive program open to media professionals between the ages of 21 and 37 who are employed by a newspaper, news magazine, broadcast station, news agency or who work free-lance and/or online. Participant qualifications also include a demonstrated journalistic talent and a strong interest in European affairs. Foreign language proficiency is an important consideration in the selection process.

Ten U.S. journalists are each granted a $4,000 living stipend while they are abroad, with an additional $1,200 for domestic airfare to Washington and international airfare to Germany. The program also covers lodging in Washington, D.C. for a joint one-week group orientation session in July. A select number of fellows will be chosen to undergo intensive language training before their departure to Germany. Expenses will be covered and details will be made available after fellows have been selected.

Former Burns program participants have access to a large and active alumni network of more than 450 journalists. Burns alumni can apply for travel and research grants, enter their work for the annual Burns and Kennan awards, and attend annual alumni dinners and conferences.

The program – under patronage by German Ambassador Dr. Peter Ammon in Washington and U.S. Ambassador Philip D. Murphy in Berlin – is jointly administered by the International Center for Journalists in Washington, D.C. and the Internationale Journalisten-Programme (IJP) in Königstein, Germany.

Internship

Al Jazeera English is seeking two interns in our New York and United Nations bureaus. The intern will help produce live interviews, news packages and feature stories.

Responsibilities include research, pitching stories, attending press conferences, and helping with anything in the field. Other duties include technical tasks such as logging tape, researching archival footage, coordinating transmissions of tape to other bureaus, and limited administrative work. Interest in international news is a must.

The position is part-time for 3 months. Hours are flexible and will vary depending on intern availability and news of the day, but a normal day begins at 9am and ends at 5pm. Interns will work at the UN office and/or the NY office.

Online Editorial Interns

NYMag.com is looking for spring semester online editorial interns who can work a minimum of two full days per week. Responsibilities include slideshow production, research, reporting, and writing for our blogs (including Vulture.com and The Cut), listings, and service sections.

Television Journalism Graduate Intern

BRIC is the community access television organization for Brooklyn. Its community media programs offer residents free access to media production facilities and equipment and low-cost media education through the Brooklyn Center for Media Education. BRIC’s community media programming also includes three programming initiatives aired on the 4-channel BCAT-TV Network: community-produced Brooklyn Free Speech TV; BRIC-produced, Brooklyn-focused Brooklyn Independent Television; and Brooklyn Bulletin Board, a 24/7 looping announcement service used by Brooklyn non-profits.

Brooklyn Independent Television produces a number of weekly, bi-monthly, and monthly programs covering public affairs, sports, health, business, the arts, plus a series focusing on an ever-growing number of Brooklyn neighborhoods. These programs are divided up among distinct production teams.

Purpose of Position: We are inviting graduate students from NYC-based journalism programs to spend a portion of their semester with us. Interns will acquire real-world experience and expand their portfolios.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Interns will be assigned to work with one or more teams. They will be expected to:
• assist with research, logistical support, location shoots, logging and capturing footage, etc.; and
• produce one or more stories over the course of the semester.

Eligibility Requirements
• Must be currently enrolled as a graduate student in a school of journalism;
• Must have enough scheduling flexibility to undertake the internship position; and
• Must be enthusiastic about collaborating to create television journalism.

Publications Department Intern

The Dramatists Guild of America is seeking an intern to work with the Publications Department for the spring semester. Hours are completely flexible. The internship is unpaid, and not eligible for academic credit.

The Publications Intern tasks include, but are not limited to, researching, compiling, and formatting the Dramatist Diary for the magazine; helping compile and format the National Reports; proofreading all copy for The Dramatist; and generally assisting the Publications Director with research and daily publications business plus provide in-office support when the Publications Director is on vacation. Knowledge of InDesign is helpful but not mandatory.
