Internships are unpaid and we are looking for someone who is available at least 10-12 hours per week. 1stdibs is looking for one full-time or two part-time interns to join its editorial department in New York City this fall, starting mid September. Interns will help the editors in all aspects of the editorial process, and some responsibilities include story research and fact-checking, photo research, writing photo captions and transcribing interviews. ABOUT METROFOCUS:

Produced by WNET Interactive, MetroFocus is a web- and TV- magazine that covers news, culture and life in the NYC region. MetroFocus launched in summer 2011 first as a website, out of which will evolve in late 2011 a regular half-hour local television broadcast on WNET Channel 13 and WLIW Channel 21. MetroFocus is the first dual platform production of WNET Interactive, a new division of WNET New York Public Media, the pioneering provider of public television and web content.

With a public media sensibility and commitment of purpose, MetroFocus fills the gaps left by both the local news shows on commercial TV and by many of NYC’s niche local sites to bring the biggest media market in the country the quality of local content it deserves.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Immediate opportunities are available on a rolling basis for interns to support the MetroFocus website and TV show. We are seeking students who are working towards a college degree in liberal arts, journalism, business, digital media, web production, communications or a related field.

Ideal candidates will have a strong academic record; excellent communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; willingness to do administrative tasks; the ability to juggle multiple duties; and a passionate interest in NYC news, policy issues, culture and public media.

We are looking for people who will be flexible and hardworking as roles and responsibilities evolve over time.

RESPONSIBILITITES

Interns will be expected to keep abreast of current events and news, pitch story ideas and events for inclusion in the website, “cover” specific blogs and pitch original contributions to the site that they can write or produce. Interns may also assume specific specialized assignments depending on length of internship and strengths and talents of each candidate:

Articles: Research, fact-check, copyedit and write stories for publication (Required: superior writing, usage, storytelling and reporting skills)
Video: Assist in video production: shoot and edit video (Required: Proficiency in shooting video and Final Cut Pro video-editing skills)
Photography: Track down photos, use Photoshop, create photo-galleries and slideshows. (Required: Proficient in Photoshop)
Business development: Research and prepare meetings and follow up for potential content and marketing partners (Required: Superior interpersonal skills, proficiency in PowerPoint)
Social media/PR: Assist with public relations events and social media outreach and success. (Required skills: Advanced knowledge of Twitter, Facebook and other social media and familiarity with various evolving platforms to track social media reach: e.g. Bit.ly, Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, SocialFlow, Backtype, Klout, Score.ly)

All interns also provide other manners of production support, including:

Conducting business development outreach and follow up to outside organizations and media companies for content sharing and marketing cross-promotion.
Coordinating PR events.
Performing other production operations, story research and reporting under the direction of the Executive Producer/Editor-in-Chief or other key staff.

Essential skills and qualifications for all interns include:

Strong interpersonal skills, including ease and professionalism on the phone and in person. Candidates must feel comfortable cold-calling people inside and outside the company for information.
Solid knowledge of grammar, punctuation and the basics of reporting, fact checking and journalistic ethics and standards.
Excellent written communications and business etiquette. Proficiency in MS Office: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and in Outlook calendar management.

Radio News Intern

CBS News is seeking a fall 2011 intern for Radio News. Interests in broadcast journalism, especially radio, a must. Intern should have basic knowledge of computers and be self-starters. Intern should also have a fundamental concept of reporting and research. Juniors, seniors, and graduate students are eligible. Participants must have good computer skills, excellent written and oral communication abilities and knowledge of current events. A 3.0 GPA or above is recommended. This is an unpaid internship. The student is required to get college credit.

Editorial Department Intern Out Magazine New York

Scholastic Parent & Child magazine is looking for an intern to work in our Soho office 2-3 days a week this fall. Our interns are an important part of the editorial team and contribute to the print magazine, website and iPad app. We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, organized and hard-working. Duties include interviewing celebrities for our website, requesting and tracking product samples, conducting story research, attending photo shoots or press events as needed, and providing general administrative support. This internship is a great way to prepare yourself for a future role as an editorial assistant. Must receive school credit.
