Digital Editor

The GroundTruth Project is a nonprofit news organization based at WGBH in Boston, with a mission to support a new generation of journalists. Our team is small, our awards are big, and our impact is growing. We provide opportunities and mentorship to emerging journalists through reporting fellowships, our new initiative Report for America, and additional programs for photography and audio documentaries. We’re passionate about great journalism and the role it plays in democracy, both abroad and in local communities.

GroundTruth’s website, newsletters and social media are the places where we showcase in-depth reporting by the journalists we work with, provide resources for early-career journalists everywhere, and get the word out about our upcoming opportunities and programs. A key member of the team, the Digital Editor takes the lead on these platforms, in close collaboration with the GroundTruth team.

The Digital Editor is responsible for daily social media deliverables, weekly newsletter deliverables and web production, but this position is not the hamster wheel of a typical news organization. This position also includes time and space for creativity, experimentation and innovation across editorial responsibilities, from how we produce and present stories to how we grow our audiences. Furthermore, there will be opportunities to collaborate with other media outlets, develop and strengthen our partnerships, and be involved in trainings for journalists.

At its heart, we’re looking for a strong editor who is digitally savvy and enjoys growing and engaging audiences. We’re also looking for the attention to detail and design sensibilities needed to bring polish and professionalism to the presentation of our work on all platforms. This person should thrive in the spirited environment of a startup, enjoy wearing multiple hats, and be willing to help with the behind-the-scenes work that fuels a nonprofit.

We are open to candidates of any experience level, as long as you can make a strong case for why you’d be a good fit for this position. The GroundTruth Project is an equal employment opportunity employer and considers qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, gender, age, color, religion, national origin, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected factor.
