Editor-in-Chief
New Voices — the only national magazine written by and for Jewish college students — is looking to hire a recent college graduate for the full-time position of editor-in-chief.
Published since 1991 by the independent, nonprofit Jewish Student Press Service, New Voices provides a vital online forum for student writers across the country — and around the world — to engage with Jewish issues on their own terms and speak to a national audience of their peers.
From BDS and Black Lives Matter to sexual assault and fights over free speech, college campuses are center stage in today’s most heated debates. New Voices amplifies Jewish student voices in these debates and in the broader Jewish conversation.
The next editor-in-chief of New Voices has the opportunity to shape an editorial vision for a national online magazine. This job is a unique and valuable experience for a recent college grad who is passionate about journalism and the Jewish community. New Voices and the Jewish Student Press Service have launched the careers of countless journalists, as well as others who have gone on to accomplishment in the Jewish world and beyond.
The position traditionally has been filled by a recent college graduate. The editor-in-chief will work out of our New York City office. We are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible but definitely no later than early fall.
Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
* Excellent writing and editing skills
* Strong interest in Jewish and campus issues
* Extremely self-motivated
* Some journalism experience preferred
* Fundraising experience is also a plus
The editor-in-chief of New Voices magazine is responsible for every aspect of producing an online magazine. This is an exceptional opportunity for a self-starting journalist who is excited to create a magazine that engages Jewish students across the country.
The editor-in-chief determines the overall editorial direction of the magazine. Working with a team of volunteer student writers and editors from across the country, the editor-in-chief generates high-quality content for newvoices.org exploring Jewish issues from a student perspective.
The editor-in-chief will also engage with the magazine’s funders and work to expand the magazine’s audience. The editor-in-chief answers to a volunteer board of directors composed largely of former New Voices editors who provide guidance and support.
