Job Description

Oversee development of new and revised test prep titles from manuscript to bound book. Directly supervise and coordinate authors, evaluators, copyeditors and editorial assistant for approximately forty titles assigned per year. Assist in the development of budgets, cover and catalog copy, and sales information sheets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Develops projects with newly signed authors and arranges for revision of existing titles
•Evaluates manuscripts
•Hire Copyeditor
•Propose new title concepts
•Acts as author's advocate and contact for the rest of the publishing house
•Arranges for review of manuscripts
•Guides projects through specialized departments for all phases of production, including editing, design and formatting
•Ensures products are on time and within budget
•Works with marketing department on catalog copy and covers
•Hire indexers and translators as needed and supervise their work
•Review and approve electronic products for functionality and content
•Write many key design elements for our test preps such as sidebars, test-taking tips, chapter summaries etc.

Internal Working Relationships:
Interact with Editorial, Production, Art/Mac and Marketing departments.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university. Three to five years book publishing experience and solid editorial skills with text, trade and non-fiction projects. Ability to pay attention to detail; multi-task, and meet deadlines. Computer literate with knowledge of Windows-Microsoft Word in DOS or MAC environment preferred. Excellent decision-making ability and the capacity to work with minimal supervision.
