Job Description
The Audience Insights intern will develop the ability to analyze, understand, and effectively communicate the value of the New York Times advertising audiences to internal stakeholders and advertising clients through the process of uncovering relevant & actionable audience insights. They will utilize various analysis and measurement tools to provide timely in-depth reporting, analysis, and recommended solutions.
Expectations/Goals/Learning Opportunities
Assist with the process of gathering data & insights in response to questions & information requests from across the advertising department.
Support in handling day-to-day insights requests from stakeholders & clients that range from analyzing reader behavior to determining composition of specific NYT audiences.
Learn to leverage proprietary and syndicated data to create and present analyses to position The New York Times to the marketplace and clients.
Gain experience with data analysis and storytelling, going beyond the “what” to tell the “why” from research results.
By assigning the intern to be assisting across all pods, they can get a good sense of different industries and grow in understanding needs based on categories.
Support and at times lead the process of conducting market research with various sources (e.g., Google Trends, Facebook IQ, Pew Research, specific NYT articles, etc.) and present findings to the team.
Acting as an “extended” arm of team members in compiling relevant information that we can also back with 1P/3P data.
Understand the competitive landscape, advertising trends, and client needs for advertising with an eye toward translating this intelligence into specific actionable research findings.
Work with their manager and team to synthesize industry reporting.
Qualifications:
A relevant field of study that is in part or whole developing experience & literacy with advertising research and/or insights development, data analysis and storytelling.
An interest in developing strategic skills with a strong interest in advertising/media research and consumer insights, the digital marketing ecosystem and the media business.
Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
Capable of handling multiple projects.
Ability to work efficiently and accurately with strong attention to detail.
Excellent presentation and writing skillsAny knowledge of syndicated media, data and audience measurement tools, such as MRI, Ipsos Affluent Survey, GWI, comScore, SimilarWeb, Telmar, etc. or experience with web analytics platforms (especially Google Analytics) is a strong plus.
Prospective projects that can be assigned/considered:
Provide User Experience feedback for custom dashboards.
Mine submitted research requests for common themes by pod/categories.
Compile turnkey resources for pods.
