Job Description

Basic function: Assess provisionally accepted journal manuscripts for scientific quality, accuracy, and novelty. Apply understanding of complex medical/scientific concepts to review the science of others. Responsible for substantive scientific editing of Radiology manuscripts in conjunction with Editor and Deputy Editors. Performs in depth editing of targeted editorials and reviews to ensure clear communication and enforces manuscript-specific requirements.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Works with the Editor and Deputy Editors of Radiology in scientific editing of manuscripts provisionally
accepted for publication, to identify and address needed modifications in manuscripts to ensure that they clearly communicate the information required by readers to assess the scientific validity of the research reported on, as well as the ability to reproduce its methods and to generalize from the results reported.

2. Communicates and collaborates with manuscript authors to obtain needed additional information and to clarify
information presented in the manuscript.

3. Ensures that the required structure for scientific reporting throughout the manuscript, as described in the
journal’s Instructions for Authors, are appropriately addressed.

4. Ensures that the conclusions reached by the manuscript authors are appropriate to and can be justified by the
research methods and findings described.

5. When assigned, works in the Editorial Office during the RSNA Annual Meetings, assisting the Editor,
reviewers, authors and other attendees as required.

6. Performs in depth editing of all non-research content, including targeted editorials and reviews, to ensure clear
and accurate communication that will be accessible to a general clinician.
7. Meets deadlines independently.
8. Keeps personal and general office records of material's progress through publication stages.

9. Works on other tasks as assigned.
