The Chronicle of Higher Education is the No. 1 source of news, information, and jobs for college and university faculty members and administrators.
Based in Washington, D.C., The Chronicle has more than 70 full-time writers and editors, as well as 17 foreign correspondents around the world.
Online, The Chronicle is published every weekday and is the top destination for news, advice, and jobs for people in academe. The Chronicle's Web site features the complete contents of the latest issue; daily news and advice columns; thousands of current job listings; an archive of previously published content; vibrant discussion forums; and career-building tools such as online CV management, salary databases, and more.
The Chronicle's audited Web-site traffic is routinely more than 12 million pages a month, seen by more than one million unique visitors.
In print, The Chronicle is published in two sections: Section A, which contains news and jobs, and The Chronicle Review, a magazine of arts and ideas. Subscribers also receive a special Almanac of Higher Education once a year, two supplements on forthcoming events in academe, and other special reports. The print version is also available as a digital edition.
The newspaper is subscribed to by more than 70,000 academics and has a total readership of 350,000.
The Chronicle appears weekly in print except for every other week during June, July, and August, and the last three weeks in December (a total of 42 issues a year).
The Chronicle is a nine-time finalist for the National Magazine Awards, and one of its columnists was a finalist for a 2005 Pulitzer Prize. The Utne Reader that year named The Chronicle for "best political coverage" among independent newspapers.
The Chronicle of Higher Education offers three internship sessions each year: winter/spring, summer, and fall.
The paper is currently seeking interns for the summer 2011 session, which will begin in June. The internships are full-time in our Washington, D.C., office and will last through August. In addition to a $500 weekly stipend, academic credit can often be arranged.

In addition, The Chronicle is offering a Diversity Internship to give current undergraduates and recent college graduates the opportunity to gain professional experience at the No. 1 source for news about higher education. The program aims to help bring greater diversity to the field of journalism by reaching out to students who are members of minority groups underrepresented in the industry. All the interns will have the same primary responsibilities: reporting and writing daily news articles for The Chronicle's Web site (which usually appear subsequently in print), writing news articles for other sections of the newspaper, and doing research for special projects. There is very little grunt work. Interns who prove themselves as reporters and writers are often asked to write full-length features.
The Chronicle places a premium on reporting that is accurate and writing that shines. All writing, including that done by staff reporters, is carefully edited. Interns typically leave with a set of strong, varied clips.
Requirements: Experience writing for publication, either at a student newspaper or a professional publication, is required. Candidates with previous internships and deadline-reporting experience are preferred. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Fr
