Job Description

Reporter - to cover Law Technology News
Law Technology News, (www.lawtechnologynews.com) with a circulation of 43,000, is an award-winning bimonthly (6 times annually) magazine and daily website that cover how technology helps the legal profession better serve its clients. We offer news, features, and columns, as well as a daily email alert, webinars, podcasts, blogs, and more.

Our goal is to explain legal technology in plain English, and demystify it for our readers, who represent the full bandwidth of the legal profession: from IT directors at major firms to general counsel in law departments, to solo practitioners, to technology consultants, to vendors.

We’ve been honored for editorial and design excellence by American Business Media; the American Society of Business Publications Editors; the Trade Association Business Publications International; and others.

The reporter position involves reporting and writing about legal technology trends, new products and services, people and deals. The reporter may contribute to our "Technology on Trial" column, a case study about how technology was used in a real-life trial, and our Green Law column about how the legal profession is adopting energy-saving protocols.

The ideal candidate has at least a year of experience reporting on technology topics, though candidates with other reporting experience and a demonstrated interest in technology and its business uses will be considered. An understanding of the legal community is also an advantage. Our staff is small and collaborative, and our pace is quick, so the successful candidate will be a self-starter. A foundation in journalism fundamentals is essential, as is the ability to multi-task and perform under very tight deadlines, with minimal supervision. There is some potential for travel to technology events. Experience with Microsoft Word is essential; experience with inCopy, KV and/or inDesign, and Web content management systems and e-newsletters are plusses. It's a great position for someone interested in learning about producing a magazine and website.

Qualified candidates should submit resume and cover letter with salary requirements to opportunities@alm.com for immediate consideration. Only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.
